Mr. James’ Weekly Reflection – 15th May 2025

Dear Nadeen Family,

What a fantastic week it has been at Nadeen!

We began today with our wonderful Science Fair, where over 60 fabulous experiments were proudly showcased by our budding scientists. It was a joy to see learners demonstrating their curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. As a House event, it also strengthened connections across year groups and brought an extra layer of excitement and team spirit. A heartfelt thank you to Phil (affectionately known as Science Phil) and Janine for organising such an inspiring and energising morning, it was a true celebration of inquiry and discovery.

We also had a super powered week with our Superhero Day! The school was bursting with colour, joy, and imagination as learners and staff dressed up to support the meaningful cause: RLS Bahrain and the Elliott Walsh Defibrillator Fund. Thank you to everyone who contributed, participated, and helped raise both funds and awareness. Events like these beautifully demonstrate our VAAs such as empathy, responsibility, and kindness, alongside the ACP of collaboration, which are all key pillars of The Nadeen Way.

Another highlight was welcoming Dr. Gardenia Al Saffar, Consultant Psychiatrist at Royal Bahrain Hospital, for a session exploring the impact of early smartphone exposure on learner well-being. Thank you to those who attended and contributed to this important dialogue. This forms part of our wider engagement with the Smartphone-Free Childhood Bahrain movement, which we hope will become a community driven initiative inspired by global efforts to delay children’s exposure to smartphones and social media. Getting the balance right!

This movement is centred on:

  • Protecting Childhood: Promoting real-world connection and unstructured play.
  • Prioritising Mental Health: Addressing the rising concerns linked to early and excessive screen time, including anxiety, depression, and sleep challenges.
  • Strengthening Community Bonds: Encouraging collective responsibility among parents, educators, and health professionals to support healthier digital habits.

As we continue to review our own approach, it’s heartening to see the rich and reflective conversations taking place across our school community. These are not always easy discussions, but they are essential, and they reflect our deep commitment to the well-being of our learners.

Wishing everyone a restful and connected weekend and hey, maybe one without too many screens!
