Mr. James’ Weekly Reflection – 20th March

Dear Nadeen Family,

As we conclude our Neurodiversity Week at Nadeen, I am reminded of the importance of not only raising awareness but truly embedding an inclusive mindset into our daily practices. At Nadeen, we are more than a school that acknowledges neurodiversity; we are a community that embraces and celebrates the unique strengths and perspectives each individual brings. Moving past labels is crucial as labels can often create unnecessary barriers, and our commitment is to ensure that every learner has the opportunity to thrive without constraints.

If we are to live out our vision: ‘I can be, in my own way’ then we must continue to engage in open conversations that expand our knowledge and understanding. Neurodiversity is not a niche concept; it reflects the world we live in. The more we educate ourselves and each other, the more we create an environment where all individuals feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. #Belong

I am reminded of the idea that we, as educators, and I would argue as parents, are here to create miracles, a term used by Sir Ken Robinson. He said, “Our role is to create the conditions for life and learning to flourish. When we do that, we realise we have been in the miracle business all along.” This perspective speaks directly to our mission at Nadeen: to nurture an environment where learning thrives, barriers dissolve, and each individual is empowered to shine brightly. This is something that I am very proud of and certainly looking forward to seeing grow over the next few years. #proudprincipal

One of the key ways we foster this growth is through our monthly Inclusion Presentations. These sessions serve not only to highlight important aspects of inclusion but also to provide practical strategies for consideration. The ability to come together as a community, discuss, and learn from one another strengthens the way we view both education and society. More importantly, it cultivates a culture of openness, which is the first of my seven leadership dispositions. A truly open community is one where dialogue is welcomed, perspectives are valued, and learning is a shared journey. As we continuously strive for excellence in education, it is my ambition that all staff at Nadeen will gain qualifications in areas such as neurodiversity. Enhancing our professional knowledge in this area will not only enrich the provision we offer but will also deepen our collective understanding of learners and learning itself.

Our recent Year 9 Options Taster Day was a fantastic opportunity for learners to explore potential subjects for their next stage of learning in the IGCSEs. Throughout the day, learners engaged in a variety of taster sessions, experiencing first hand what different subjects have to offer. As I dropped in and out of sessions, it was wonderful to see the enthusiasm, curiosity, and thought provoking discussions as learners considered these important decisions about their pathways.

Thank you to all of our community for wearing odd socks to support World Down Syndrome Day, and I hope our mothers enjoyed receiving roses this morning for Mother’s Day. Can I also say a big thank you once again to those who attended the Ghabgha, which was such a special evening in a beautiful location.

Thank you to everyone who has participated in and contributed to our Neurodiversity Week. Your engagement and willingness to grow as a community make all the difference. Let’s continue to push boundaries, challenge perceptions, and ensure that at Nadeen, every individual truly has the opportunity to be the best version of themselves. My heart sings!

Her leadership is characterised by a genuine enthusiasm for learning and a strong
