Mr. James’ Weekly Reflection – 13 November

This week has been a wonderful celebration of learning, community spirit, and connection across all areas of the school, a true reflection of our HPL Values, Attitudes and Attributes (VAAs), and the deep sense of belonging that defines life at Nadeen.

We have enjoyed under the stars with our Year 5 Stargazing Evening, a magical and memorable experience for our learners and families. It was fantastic to see so much curiosity, collaboration, and confidence as learners explored the night sky together, bringing their classroom learning to life.

Sport has once again taken centre stage at Nadeen this week. Our U11 Boys Football team hosted a friendly tournament against St Christopher’s and BSB in preparation for the upcoming BSME Games, while our U11, U13 and U15 Girls Netball teams played a series of friendlies against St Chris as part of their preparations for both the BSME and PSL competitions. In addition, our U13 Boys Volleyball team represented the school at ASB, and won Silver. These experiences continue to build the resilience, confidence, and collaboration that underpin our learners’ growth, both on and off the field.

Beyond the pitch and court, a number of our learners have made us proud at the Rookie Junior Beach Lifesaving Championship at SAMA Bay. Congratulations to Scarlett Brown, who placed third overall in the U8 Girls category, and to Alex Walster, who also placed third overall in the U12 Boys category. Both demonstrated great skill, perseverance, and sportsmanship, clear examples of the agility and resilience we strive to nurture through HPL.

It was also a privilege to see our Head Boy and Head Girl representing Nadeen School at the Remembrance Day ceremony held at the British Embassy, a poignant and respectful occasion that reflected the values we hold dear as a community. I was incredibly proud of both of them; presenting to an audience on such an important day can be daunting for anyone, yet they were composed, respectful, and represented Nadeen and themselves brilliantly. Their leadership and integrity were shining examples of empathy, confidence, and respect in action.

Our Family Fun Run on Saturday was another reminder of our collective sense of belonging and community spirit, bringing together learners, families, and staff in an energetic celebration of health, connection, and togetherness. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported the event. We also look forward to cheering on our Relay Marathon team in the upcoming event, another example of Nadeen spirit in motion.

We have also seen the continued enthusiasm for Movember, with some very suspect moustaches appearing across campus. Thank you to everyone supporting this important global cause; we now have a Just Giving page set up under Nadeen Movember with all donations going directly to the Global Movember Charity. This initiative perfectly encapsulates our values of empathy, community, and social responsibility.  

In classrooms, rich and meaningful learning continues to flourish. As Miss Emma Pickering shared, our Year 1 learners have been deeply engaged in their enquiry, “What can we do to help our planet?” They have been inspired by real-world experts, hands-on investigations, and stories like Duffy’s Lucky Escape. Their curiosity, empathy, and drive to make a difference embody the HPL VAAs of enquiry, creativity, and collaboration, and their desire to take positive action reflects the Nadeen ethos of caring for both people and the planet.

Secondary learners also had the privilege of participating in today’s meeting with His Excellency the Minister of Education, which proved to be a highly enriching and productive experience. The session provided an excellent opportunity for our learners to engage in a direct and meaningful dialogue with His Excellency about key educational matters, a truly inspiring example of confidence, leadership, and intellectual curiosity in action.

Finally, it has been inspiring to see our learners and families contributing to the Youth Asia Games as volunteers, a reflection of our community’s generosity, service, and global citizenship.

Another brilliant week at Nadeen, full of connection, curiosity, compassion, and belonging. Thank you to everyone who continues to make this such a special place to learn, grow, and thrive together.
